When you object to a plan or a proposal because you have doubts about it, you demur. If you object to a cut from your pay for charity, you may object to it, you demur. You may demur when you are asked to work an extra hour, that is, you may object. Your doubts about your ability to discharge a responsibility may make you demur. That is, you may not be willing to accept it.
The office staff demurred when they were asked to do extra work, though they were offered extra pay. They were not willing to lose their leisure even if it meant extra money.
Sharon never demurred even when she had to part with her jewelry to her sister, in spite of the fact that it was with her money that she had bought all the jewelry.
