acoustics (noun) (always plural) the quality of sound in a room or a hall, as decided by the shape, size, and design of the room or hall.

The acoustics of a room are bad, if because of the shape, size, etc., of the room, the sound produced in it is too loud, too low, or distorted. On the other hand if the sound production in a room is pleasant the room has good acoustics.

  • The acoustics of the music hall are excellent to the extent that there is high fidelity reproduction of sound which makes it pleasing to the ear.
  • Latest theaters are so planned and built that the acoustics make the sound very pleasing to the ears of the audience.
