acrophobia (noun) a fear of heights.

Some people feel a kind of fear when they are at a high point, like the top of a tall building, or when they look down from its terrace. This is acrophobia. A person having acrophobia cannot become the pilot of a plane. They may not be very comfortable during flights.

  • Because of his acrophobia, he felt sick and had a reeling sensation when he looked down from the terrace.
  • His acrophobia disqualified him from becoming an airline pilot which ambition he had cherished from his boyhood.
