addle (verb) to muddle; confuse.

A person addles you when they confuse you to the point of driving you crazy. Some people have the knack of making simple things complicated, thereby confuse you. That is addling you. If we get different descriptions of a thing from different people, it addles us. If we are unable to understand a plan because it is not clear, we are addled.

  • In these circumstances he is so addled that he cannot think of a practicable solution to the problem.
  • His description of the situation contradicts his brother's. As I am unable to decide who is correct, I am addled.
