When a substance is made impure by mixing it with another substance of inferior quantity, it is adulterated. Things are adulterated mostly for illegal profits (profiteering). We can adulterate milk with water. Gas or diesel can be adulterated with kerosene in countries where gas (petrol) is expensive and scarce.
- Traders adulterate food stuffs for profits but do not realize how many lives are lost or how many are permanently impaired in the process.
- In some of the developing countries, liquor is adulterated with poisonous chemicals, which can cause painful death.
