adversity (noun) a difficult or unpleasant time.

When a person has a difficult time, because of shortage of money when money is needed, or faces very unfortunate circumstances, causing a lot of misery, the person experiences adversity. 'Adversity' is to be in needy circumstances, every thing turning against us - very unfavorable times, misfortunes.

  • Adversity tests a person's character, because under pressure of adversity, a person may be tempted or forced to do wrong things, which if they resist, they are great.
  • Adversity troubled him for almost a decade, leaving him totally depressed, and when finally fortune smiled on him, he felt boundless joy.
