affected (adj) pretended; insincere; not natural.
An affected interest in a thing, or in a person, is interest which you pretend to have, but which you really do not feel. When a person, just to make an impression, speaks with an accent, which clearly appears to be an imitation, their accent is affected. When you laugh at some thing just to please others, and not because you really find any reason for it, the laughter is affected. We talk of an affected smile; a person's manners, language, gestures can be affected, if they are not natural to the person.
- He was tiring every one around him, with his affected language and mannerisms, as it was very clear that he wanted to impress others with his new status as the student of number one university in the country.
