A remark or an action meant to insult someone is an affront. A person's rude talk to, or, rude behavior towards elders, or to people in higher positions, is an affront. A pupil disobeying, or talking back to their teacher is an affront. A speaker's remarks which are insulting to the listeners, are an affront to the listeners.
