agog (adj) full of excitement, expectation, and eager to know.

When you are excited about something likely to cause great joy or pleasure, you are agog. People of a city excited about something of importance happening in the city are agog with the news of it. A great person's or a popular movie star's arrival in a city or a city getting the chance of hosting a prestigious match may make the people agog. People are agog when they sight, for example, things like flying saucers and the like.

  • The children at the school were agog on hearing that their teacher was taking them on a picnic and then to a circus show.
  • The Chinese must have been agog when they knew that their country would be hosting the next Olympic games.
