alloy (verb) make impure; to make into an alloy.
When something is made into an alloy, it is mixed with a less valuable substance. To alloy copper, for example, is to mix copper with another metal or substance, especially of a lower value. Used usually in the negative form 'unalloyed'. It means unmixed, and therefore pure or perfect. To alloy also means to make something into an alloy. We alloy gold with copper for malleability.
- Their joy was unalloyed to see their team, which had lost points in the first half of the game, rallying to win the match in the last fifteen minutes.
- With unalloyed happiness she accepted his proposal that they marry as soon as they could.
