amnesia (noun) loss of memory, total or partial.

A mental condition because of which people lose their memory either totally or partially is amnesia. Either because of old age, or because of brain damage caused by an accident and the like, people are likely to lose memory. They may forget their past, fail to recognize even people very close to them, and not be able to carry on their normal activities. Such a state is called amnesia.

  • As a result of an accident some years ago, Luke has lost his memory. Doctors, however, are sure that sooner or later, he is likely to overcome his amnesia and regain his normal memory.
  • Ann has to have the constant attention of a nurse to help her carry on even her normal daily activities like having a bath, food, etc., because her amnesia makes her forget even such things.
