analogous (adj) similar; comparable.

If two things are comparable to each other, because they are similar in some way, they are analogous. For example, the shape of the body of an airplane is analogous to that of a fish, whereas its wings are analogous to those of a bird.

  • A good number of things are named after the parts of the human body because the objects are analogous to them; for example, the head of a pin, the eye of a needle, the hands of a clock, etc..
  • A good number of poets find the adversities of life analogous to thorns.
