anarchy (noun) a lack of proper government in a country; a lack of order or system in an organization.

A situation in which a government fails to maintain law and order in a country and is unable to exercise its power is anarchy. Anarchy prevails in a country if the police, the courts, and other government departments are unable to impose their authority. The absence of a government is also anarchy.

  • Anarchy prevailed in Britain soon after the execution of King Charles I, as, following it, the country faced lawlessness with the nation divided into two groups, the Royalists and the Republicans.
  • With the chief executive officer suddenly leaving the company, there is total anarchy in the company. So nothing is happening there as it should.
