ancillary (adj) supporting the chief activity of an organization; serving as an addition to something, but not as important (accessory).
Ancillary services are those offered by an organization to support its main activities. For example, career guidance and placement services are ancillary services provided by a business school, its main activity being offering the business course. If a hospital, in addition to treatment, offers counseling services, these services are ancillary services. Door delivery of goods or services, free installation, etc., are ancillary services provided by some stores. A course in physics may be done as an ancillary course to a core course in some other subject. Persons whose services support those of others are ancillary staff. Paramedics, lab technicians, ambulance staff, emergency support staff, etc., are the ancillary staff in a hospital.
