animus (noun) strong dislike, hatred, or anger.

Your hatred for some one is your animus against them. If there is animus between two people, there is hatred between them. When your anger is strong and results in the dislike of a person, you have animus against the person.

  • Joe who had been very friendly with his colleague Jane, suddenly developed animus against her, because she was given a promotion overlooking his claims.
  • The animus between the two politicians is so strong that one cannot tolerate the presence of the other, and wishes to see the other's end.
