anomalous (adj) irregular; abnormal; unusual.
If something is against what is usual or regular, it is anomalous. It is normal for an object to contract when cooled, but water expands when it is cooled below zero degrees Celsius. This is anomalous. If a junior is promoted to a higher position, ignoring a senior, the promotion is anomalous. A person in a lower position getting a higher pay than the one in a higher position in the same company or organization is anomalous. A person's behavior is anomalous if they do not behave the same way as others of their group do. A person's position is anomalous if it happens to be different from that of all the others in the group.
