anthropoid (adj) resembling humans (usually apes).

Apes are big tailless monkeys, similar to human beings. The apes are anthropoids; that is, they look very much like human beings in their ways of eating, etc.. Gorillas, chimpanzees, and orangutans are all anthropoids.

  • Anthropoids are more closely related to humans than to monkeys, in that they can stand upright and walk on two legs like humans.
  • Anthropoids can adapt themselves to human environment, though with some difficulty, depending on the way they are trained.
