antidote (noun) a substance which makes poison or a disease ineffective.

A substance, especially a drug, which can free a person totally from suffering and danger caused by poison or by a disease, is an antidote. An antidote neutralizes the effect of poison or a disease, and can make the patient safe. Any thing or any action which can make a dangerous situation safe is also described as an antidote.

  • There is no perfect antidote to rabies, the fatal disease caused by mad dog-bite.
  • For most North Americans and the English, a warm month in French Riviera is an antidote to the chilling winter of their countries.
