apathy (noun) lack of interest or enthusiasm; indifference.
When you are not enthusiastic about, or interested in something, say, a celebration, you have apathy for it. Your apathy for something makes you indifferent to it. If people show little enthusiasm about any occasion of public interest, they have apathy for it. A general apathy among people for elections is their lack of interest in it.
- People are convinced that whichever party comes to power, there is little change in the lives of the masses, so there is apathy among people this time for the elections.
