ape (verb) imitate; copy others.

When you imitate someone you ape them. Your imitation of others' ways of dressing, mannerisms, ways of speech, is your aping them. Aping others makes a person lose their individuality. If one group of people in general adopt the customs and traditions of another group or of another community, the imitating group apes the others' customs and traditions. Conservatives strongly disapprove of the people of their community aping others' customs and traditions. To mimic the way others behave, walk, talk, etc., just for fun or for insulting them is also to ape.
