apocalyptic (adj) having gloomy visions or views of damage and destruction in the past or in the future, especially in the future; a prediction of ruin.

The section, 'Revelations', of the Bible, predicts the end of the world, of the world being destroyed completely. So the Revelations is apocalyptic. Preachers at street corners telling their listeners to beware of destruction overtaking the world, and so to hurry up to be saved by having faith in the Lord, are apocalyptic.

  • The speaker sounded very apocalyptic as he urged people to save themselves from the worst that is going to overtake the world, by atoning for their sins before it was too late.
  • Apocalyptic people are described also as the prophets of doom, because they predict that the end of the world is coming.
