apogee (noun) the highest point of something; the greatest or most successful phase in one's career or life; the farthest point of moon or another planet in its orbit from the earth.

The highest point of a thing is called its apogee. When a person is at the most successful point in their career, they are at their apogee. People at their apogee are at the greatest or the most active phase of their life or activity. The farthest point of the moon in its orbit from the earth is its apogee. Similarly, the most distant point of another planet in its orbit from the earth is that planet's apogee.

  • The merchants of ancient Greece were at the apogee of their prosperity, when in the centuries before Christ they had trade links overseas with far off countries like India.
  • The British East India Company was at its apogee of trading activity and rule in India before the British Emperor made the Indian territories a part of the British Empire.
