append (verb) add; attach.

When you attach, or add, especially some information at the end of a book or any piece of writing, you append it. The matter found in the appendix of a book is appended to it. A glossary giving the meanings of technical or special words used in the book and added at the end of the book is appended to it. Footnotes given at the bottom of a page or at the end of a book are also appended to the book.

  • The special information and the bibliography, which are appended to the book, are of great use to those who want to do further research on the subject.
  • The sequels appended to some plays of GB Shaw, the renowned playwright and novelist of the nineteenth century, like the prefaces to his plays, offer very interesting reading.
