apprise (verb) to give notice to; inform.

When you inform someone of an incident, you apprise them of the incident. When someone tells you of what has happened in your absence, they apprise you of it. When you are sent by someone somewhere to find out what exactly happened there, you return and apprise them of the happenings there.

  • Frank apprised his father of the fight he had with his classmate Jim, and of the punishment the teacher had given them both.
  • The ambassador has been asked by the President to apprise him of the latest position in the confrontation between Israel and Palestine.
