appurtenances (noun) additional to, or less important than, something larger.

Appurtenances are things that form a part of something more valuable or important. They may also be additional to something more important. A house with all its appurtenances means, a house with all the furniture, the electric installations, etc., in it. A piece of land with all its appurtenances in it is the land along with the trees, buildings, sheds, etc., on it.

  • The estate with all its appurtenances in an area like this would not fetch half the amount an estate of the same extent would in a suburb.
  • Usually when a house is sold, it has to be sold with all the appurtenances in it, namely the electrical installations, not so easily portable furniture, etc..
