Aristocracy is the word by which the class of very wealthy people inheriting a lot of property is known, especially in Europe, in the olden days. People known by the titles, earls, dukes, counts and lords, are all aristocrats. They are lords of big estate, and in the olden days enjoyed a lot of power over peasants working on their estate, and they often repressed them. A government run by a wealthy minority is also called aristocracy.
