arraign (verb) charge a person in a court.

When a person is arraigned, they are officially told in court of the crime they are believed to have committed. That is, they come to know of the charges they are facing. When a person is arraigned on a charge of murder, they are brought to the court and told that they are facing the complaint of murder.

  • After he was arraigned on charges of rape and murder, he was refused bail and sent to prison, pending trial.
  • David remained calm and unemotional, as he heard the court arraign him of misusing large amounts of funds of the club of which he had been the secretary.
