The word is usually used in the passive. When things are arrayed, they are arranged in an orderly and attractive manner, so that every one of the group may be seen. We talk of dresses and ornaments that are arrayed in a boutique, when we refer to the neat, attractive, and orderly manner in which they are displayed. Cars on sale are arrayed in a particular order to attract customers. Soldiers are arrayed if they stand in a battle formation, ready to attack. To clothe oneself very attractively, or to adorn oneself, is also to array oneself. 'She was arrayed in the finest of jewelry,' means, she was wearing attractive jewelry.
