artisan (noun) craftsperson.

One who is skilled at making things with their hands (without the help of machines) is an artisan. Artisans' craft (shape) things with their hands, that is, manually. Carpenters, weavers, blacksmiths, goldsmiths, are all artisans, if they make things of their trades with their hands. In the olden days, before the invention of machines, implements, utensils, clothes, etc., were made by artisans.

  • Before the onset of the Industrial Revolution, artisans were in great demand, and their skill in crafting was admirable.
  • Even today, while machines do make mass production possible, finely crafted objects are made better by artisans, than by machines.
