aspirant (noun) one who strongly wishes for a high position or victory.

A person who strongly desires a high position or success in what they attempt is an aspirant. A seeker of power, position, and success is an aspirant. For example, one who contests in an election for presidency is an aspirant for the position. A person who competes for world championship in any game or sport is an aspirant for the world title.

  • Jones was declared elected president of the organization, leading the losing aspirant by only a few hundred votes.
  • Aspirants to any public office like that of the President or the Prime Minister of a country should first secure the confidence of the electorate by their record of public service.
