assent (verb) agree or approve.

If someone agrees to, or approves of, a suggestion, a proposal, or an action, they assent to it. If after a careful consideration, you agree to a plan or a scheme, you assent to it. If you dislike something and are against it, you do not assent to it. That is, you do not agree to or accept it.

  • No one ever doubted Henry would assent to the proposal as it would give him the chance to fly to Europe at the cost of the company and enjoy the warm climate of France and Italy.
  • As Mary wanted to study the document to understand its real implications, she did not assent to sign it immediately.
