An astute person is very clever, capable of using a situation to their advantage. They are very tactful. Able diplomats are very astute. An astute politician is capable of making clever moves and can confuse their opponents. Also, doing the right thing at the right time is being astute. We have astute businessmen, who are astute in the timing of an action to their advantage. When you make a good profit by selling your stock just before their prices crash, you are an astute trader in stocks and shares.
