atypical (adj) unusual; different from the normal.
Atypical is the opposite of typical, which means having the characteristics or traits common to the group to which something belongs. A typical doctor, for example is a doctor, behaving the same way as any doctor would behave. Atypical, therefore means unusual, not sharing the characteristics of a group to which a person or a thing belongs. It is atypical for a sportsperson not to keep fit, because sports persons give importance to fitness.
