auspicious (adj) indicating success; favoring success.

An auspicious moment is a moment, which we believe indicates success or augurs well for us. An occasion, an object, the arrival of certain persons, the birth of a baby, etc., sometimes make us feel that they are indicative of something good going to happen, or that they may bring us luck. Such things, events, etc., are considered auspicious.

  • Their child being born the same day as Sir Isaac Newton was born centuries ago, they considered the birth of their child on such a day very asupicious.
  • When a couple get married, they naturally believe that the time of the wedding is auspicious, promising them a long and happy married life.
