avid (adj) eager and enthusiastic.

When you are very eager and enthusiastic to do something, you are avid. 'Avid' is usually used about a hobby or something we do just because of our interest in it. An avid reader of detective fiction is one who reads with great enthusiasm and eagerness detective novels and stories. Similarly, an avid philatelist is one who is enthusiastic about and eager for collecting as many stamps as they can.

  • She is an avid listener of pop music and spends a lot of money collecting pop music albums and wastes a lot of time listening to them.
  • As a police officer for long, Jerry is a very avid reader of crime reports and spends a lot of time watching television programs on crime.
