barterer (noun) one who does the business of exchange of goods for goods.

A barterer is a trader who exchanges goods for goods without the use of money in the transaction. Bartering in the olden days was a very common form of business. Even today, aborigines exchange their handicrafts for other kinds of articles with the barterers who visit them periodically for the purpose.

  • The barterer takes a lot of trouble visiting aboriginal communities with whom he barters, or exchanges fancy goods for furs, wool, handicrafts, and other products of tribal cottage industry.
  • Only too late did the tribal people realize that the barterer with whom they exchanged goods was a cheat, who exchanged his cheap articles for their goods which, as collector's items, fetched very high prices for him.
