bedraggle (verb) make thoroughly wet and dirty (because of rain, mud, etc.).

When you are drenched in rain completely, you are bedraggled. When walking through mud, you and your clothes become untidy, the mud bedraggles you. You are bedraggled if, because of rain or mud, you become thoroughly wet and dirty.

  • The sudden storm and the pools of mud they had to walk through bedraggled them so much that we could not recognize their faces as they were splattered with the mud.
  • The children played in mud, and it bedraggled their faces so much that with their faces totally covered with mud they looked like ghosts.
