When it behooves you to do something, it is necessary or important for you to do it. When doing something will help you some way, it behooves you to do it. To behoove also means to be suited to. It behooves an elderly person to be a model to youngsters in behavior. That is, it is proper on the part of an elderly person to show youngsters how to behave. It behooves a person in charge of the finances of a company to maintain accounts and keep them up to date. That is, it is right for them to keep accounts properly. It behooves a doctor to be considerate to their patients. That is, a doctor is expected to show consideration for their patients.

  • It does not behoove a doctor of Dr. Olson's caliber to be found so unfeeling towards the patient and so much money-minded.
