belated (adj) delayed; late in coming or in happening.
If a person arrives late at a place, it is a belated arrival. Greetings which are sent or delivered after the occasion are belated greetings. Whatever is delayed is belated. 'The belated rush of relief to the earthquake victims,' means the sending of relief to the victims very late. Belated medical attention, that is, medical attention delayed may not save the patient.
