bellicose (adj) ready for a fight or an argument, warlike.
When a person has a strong desire to fight or is ready to fight, or to argue, they are bellicose. To be bellicose is to be ready to attack, under the slightest of pretexts. Bellicose persons even cause fights where there is no scope for a fight.
- Being bellicose, Sam is always on the look out for a fight, or for a noisy argument which may lead to a fight. This has made him a source of worry to his parents and teachers.
- The rulers of the olden days always made the mistake of thinking that heroism lay in being bellicose and so they were always involved in some fight or the other.
