blunder (noun) a foolish or careless mistake.

An error resulting from foolishness or carelessness is a blunder. For example, Hitler made the blunder of attacking Russia in winter without knowing the severity of the Russian winter which resulted in heavy casualties among his soldiers. Similarly, even according to many Americans, the US military intervention in Vietnam was a blunder as a number of young American lives were lost for a hardly useful result. To fight the people of a place on their own ground without an understanding of its nature can only be a blunder, that is, a thoughtless and stupid mistake.

  • Eve's desire to work at a place away from Adam in the Garden of Eden was a blunder. Satan dare not and could not have tempted her in Adam's presence.
  • Not to have accepted the offer of a good job in such a big organization was Ricky's blunder. Never has he had a chance again of getting such a job and he now repents of his blunder.
