You feel bolstered when you have people to support you and encourage you in a fight, an argument, a competition, etc.. You then feel confident and strengthened. People use statistics to bolster their arguments, that is, with the support of statistics, people press their points strongly. When someone is involved in a fight, the presence of people close to them bolsters their confidence. The result is they feel more confident.
