braggadocio (noun) boasting of oneself, of one's own achievements, real or unreal.

Boastful talk is braggadocio. When a person indulges in braggadocio, they talk proudly of themselves, their achievements, whether real or false. Braggadocio is the trait of those who are not capable of any real achievement, but talk too much about the little they have achieved. When a person's braggadocio is revealed as the mere boast it is, they cut a sorry figure and look foolish.

  • Harrison's braggadocio did not impress anyone he talked to. They all knew that the achievements he boasted of, he was incapable of.
  • Real achievers avoid braggadocio, as they have no need to talk of their deeds. They let their achievements do the talking.
