Brocades, that is, rich fabrics embroidered with gold and silver threads have long been in use. In the olden days, members of the royal families, and the wealthy classes clothed themselves in such fabrics, and used them for decorative purposes.

  • The actors in the historical play donned costumes of brocade to imitate the kings and queens of old.
  • Handcrafted brocade, in which a lot of gold and silver thread is used, is very expensive and only the rich can afford it.
