brusque (adj) abrupt and rough; curt and rude.

When you use very few words, as if not intending to prolong the talk, and appear rude, you are brusque. When you are curt, that is, when you talk or reply very briefly, in a manner that appears very rude, you are brusque. 'My questions did not get much information from him because he was brusque.' This means, I got very little information from him because he answered my questions in a few words, and that too, in a rude manner.

  • Stanley is brusque, and because of the impression of rudeness his brusque manner creates in others, very few like to talk to him.
  • As Jenny was brusque enough to appear rude, I gave up my attempt of getting any information from her about her school.
