cabal (noun) a group of people in a party working secretly for getting political power.

A small group of people involved in a conspiracy or an intrigue, especially for political power, are called a cabal. The cabal operates secretly and has plans to occupy position of power, in a party or in a government.

  • The five members of the party form a cabal, and have just one object - to pull down the present leader of the party, and have one of them elected to the place.
  • The cabal failed to realize its ambition of securing political power as one of them leaked out their plans, following which they were expelled from the party.
