cacophonous (adj) (of noise) produced by a mixture of loud, harsh, and unpleasant sounds.

The unbearable noise resulting from a mixture of loud, jarring, and unpleasant sounds is cacophonous. Cacophony is the unbearable noise that is caused by a mixture of unpleasant sounds. For example, the kind of noises you hear in a market place with its mixture of the loud talk of the crowd, the vendors shouting their wares, the noise of the traffic, etc., is cacophonous. When the instruments in an orchestra are not in tune with one another, the resultant sound can only be cacophonous, that is, a mixture of sounds producing unbearable noise.

  • As the large party of the annual celebration of the movie industry's annual awards festival got under way, the laughter, the merry making, the loud conversations, the music of the electronic band, etc., all mixed up to fill the whole place with a cacophonous noise.
  • In the view of the enthusiasts of classical music which is marked by symphony, the so called pop, rap, and rock music with the electronic band forming part of them are just cacophonous noises.
