cadence (noun) the rise and fall of sounds or words in a rhythmic manner.

When we speak in a measured manner, or sing, the sound of our voice and our words rise and fall as though to a regular timing. Such a rise and fall of sound is cadence. Cadence is also the rhythmic sound made by soldiers on their march. The flow of music marked by rhythm and a rise and fall of sound is cadence.

  • As Stan, a very talented speaker, made his speech, his words and voice rose and fell in a measured cadence, accompanied by his slow and effective utterance of words.
  • The cadence of the waves, as they advanced and receded on the beach, was a great solace and comfort to Bess, lying alone in the cottage on the seashore.
