caprice (noun) whim; frequent change of mood and behavior.

A sudden change in the thinking or the behavior of a person for no reason is a whim or caprice. A tendency to such a quality is caprice. Certain persons have the tendency of changing their minds or behavior very frequently. Such people are persons of caprice. In the olden days people were subject to the changing moods of the rulers and had to face great hardships. That is, they were subjects to the caprice of the rulers. 'She called off her contract to act in the movie as she found it difficult to adjust to the caprice of the director.' That is, the frequent changes in the mood of the director forced her to opt out of the movie.

  • Rather late after their marriage did Clara realize that her husband Herman was a man of caprice showing intense love one moment and threatening to divorce her the next moment.
  • The child, pampered by her parents is growing into a creature of caprice, with sudden and frequent changes of mood and behavior.
