capricious (adj) whimsical; of changing moods and behavior.

A person who changes their mood or behavior suddenly and frequently is capricious. If you act in an unpredictable manner, that is, if others do not understand what you are going to do or say the next minute, you are capricious. A capricious person changes their opinions, moods, behavior, etc. without caring what others think of them or how their actions might affect others. People who are mentally unsound are very capricious.

  • Because of Joan's capricious nature she most often does the opposite of what she has earlier said she will do. For example, last week, she had at first decided to join an excursion but dropped the idea the next minute, for no reason.
  • Though Jack Sanders was a highly talented actor, he was capricious. He would be serious about his role one minute and take it easy the next minute.
